Magical Realism on Born with a Tooth
"My most important problem was destroying the lines of
demarcation that separates what seems real from
what seems fantastic." - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Similar to many Latin Americans writers, Joseph Boyden,
author of “Born with a Tooth”, is hopelessly intricate
or perplex connected to a literary style called “Magical Realism.”
Boyden uses Magical Realism to mix smoothly the reality
with the fantastic, not fantasy, so that the distinction between
both scrapes out. Now, the reality on Boyden’s story should
never be mistrusted because indistinctly the possible Magical
Characteristics used in his characters to shape the story are
an outstanding manifestation. The story, “Born with a Tooth”,
demonstrates elements of “Magical Realism” similar to Gabriel
Garcia Marquez’s stories. Comparing and contrasting Marquez’s
“Magical Realism” with “Born with a Tooth” story Magical
Characteristics will be a fundamental stage of analyzing
Boyden’s story (“Born with a Tooth”).
